Francisco “Quico” Canseco

For more than twenty years, he’s been doing the work that matters to build our communities, create jobs, support our students, and help those in need.

From building successful businesses to helping fund private healthcare and education programs for children, Canseco has the steadfast resolve to get things done for our families, our communities, and get our country back on track.

Creating Jobs for Our Communities

As a successful business owner, Canseco knows what it means to meet a payroll, keep a budget, and the pride that comes with building a business and creating job opportunities for others.

Like thousands of other small business owners across our state, Canseco worked hard, set priorities, watched the pennies, and made the most of opportunities to establish a successful business. From Laredo to Fort Worth, Canseco led the development of shopping centers and retail stores – providing jobs to hundreds of people across Texas.

In 1995, Canseco and a group of other investors began working with the Hondo National Bank to insure the people, and especially farmers and ranchers, would have access to financial services from a community oriented bank that was dedicated to the surrounding area. He viewed it as his investment in the community and a way to help folks in our area realize the hopes and dreams for their families.

Congress is in desperate need of people like Canseco who have the real world experience to help get our small businesses moving again, create economic opportunities, job development, and stop the wasteful and reckless spending of career politicians.

Service Above Self – The Canseco Foundation

Canseco knows our country’s foundation is built on strong families, safe communities, faith in God, and a spirit of American achievement inherent in each of us. As he was blessed with a growing business, Canseco felt a responsibility to give back to the communities that had afforded him such opportunity.

In 1997, along with his brothers, sisters, and mother, Consuelo Canseco, the Canseco Foundation was established to provide grant money to support educational, healthcare, and community needs in and around Laredo. Since that time, Canseco and his family have helped many important causes such as:

• Funding the Sisters of Mercy who work to administer immunizations, improve early childhood care, and run health clinics;
• Provide funding for Texas A&M International University’s School of Nursing and;
• Scholarships to help fund the education of students attending the School of Nursing.

In addition to his work through the Canseco Foundation, he has been a committed supporter of scholarships for students attending San Antonio’s UT Health Science Center and UTSA. Canseco believes in working to help ensure our students of today receive the necessary education for them to become our leaders of tomorrow.

A Commitment to Help Protect Children

Canseco has furthered his commitment to protecting and supporting children in our community through his role in Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA). As a CASA board member, he volunteers his time to ensure the organization has the resources it needs to continue helping abused and neglected children find loving, nurturing homes so these children can flourish in a secure and stable family.

Canseco began serving on the CASA board in 2008 after he was asked to get involved and help provide additional leadership to assist their efforts on behalf of children.

A Limited Government Conservative

While he has not always agreed with the Republican Party, especially when it came to larger government spending, Canseco knows the best avenue to further limited government and Constitutional-based ideals is through the Republican Party.

He believes we need more citizen-legislators in elected office instead of career politicians. That’s why he has worked tirelessly talking to voters, helping candidates, and encouraging the Party to more fully embrace the vision of our Founding Fathers.

To this end, he has served in many roles supporting the Republican Party and its candidates:

• Delegate to the State Republican Convention in 2004, 2006, and 2008;
• Credentials Committee Chairman 2006;
• At-large Delegate to the Republican National Convention 2008;
• Board Member of the Texas Federation of Republican Women;
• Member of the Frontier Leadership Council and Candidate Resource Committee for the Republican Party of Texas and;
• Appointed to attend the National Hispanic Leadership Conference by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Congressman Lamar Smith.

Devoted Brother, Husband, and Father

Growing up in a large and close-knit family, Canseco knows how important a strong family is to the success of our children. As the oldest son of eight children, he always watched out for his brothers and sisters as they were growing up in Laredo.

He has been married to Gloria for thirty years and they are the proud parents of Anni, Quico Jr., and Carlos.

The Canseco’s attend St. Matthews Catholic Church and reside in Northwest San Antonio.
