Francisco Canseco’s Statement on
Ciro Rodriguez’s vote to cut funding from the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program

News | Published December 14, 2009

San Antonio, TX – On Thursday, December 10th, Ciro Rodriguez voted in favor of a provision in the FY2010 Omnibus spending bill that will cut $70 Million in funding for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program or SCAAP.

“Simply put Ciro Rodriguez voted against public safety.  At a time when violent drug cartels and criminal illegal aliens are flowing into our country, Ciro actually voted to reduce the funding to these keep criminals behind bars.” said Canseco.

“Drug cartels have become so brash and violent that Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, has warned parents to watch out for their children’s safety as the cartels recruit in Texas high schools. We cannot afford to cut $70 Million in funding to a program that will protect our families and communities from dangerous criminals.”

“Congress should be giving states like Texas the tools they need to combat violence along our border.  Unfortunately, once again, Ciro Rodriguez is not listening to the concerns of his constituents and his vote last week could come back to haunt the families in our communities,” Canseco said.
